How prostate cancer is diagnosed

Diagnosis follows a raised PSA or an abnormal examination, and typically includes multiparametric MRI, targeted biopsy and staging scans if the disease appears more advanced.

Risk stratification

Prostate cancer is classified as low, intermediate or high risk based on PSA, Gleason grade and stage. This informs the treatment recommendation.

Treatment options

Options are chosen through shared decision-making, considering disease risk, your health and your priorities around continence and sexual function.

  • Active surveillance for low-risk disease
  • Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy
  • Radiotherapy (external beam or brachytherapy)
  • Focal therapy for selected patients
  • Systemic therapy for advanced disease
